Scarlet Weather Rhapsody English Patch v1.0
After several months of hard work by a group of dedicated translators, editors, and programmers, the English patch for Scarlet Weather Rhapsody is finally available! To download, just click on the image above or on either of the mirror links below. Just make sure to have SWR itself updated to the latest current version (1.06); you can download the patch from Tasofro’s website here.

For whatever reason, it won’t install for me. I select the directory where SWR is located, and then the OK box grays out.
Teruyo: The exact check is that it looks for th105.exe and th105a.dat, if it can’t find either of those it won’t let you install to that location. The common problem here is that you have renamed the program to something else, and this is not acceptable for the mod.

Can I ask for some advice here? I know I need an up to date version of SWR to play, but I can’t get the version 1.06 patch to work, it always gives an error at the point where the progress bar first shows up.
Patching problems are fairly common, unfortunately.
Make sure to remove kanji from the game’s folder name, as it screws up japanese software somewhat. Look to see that it puts th105c.dat into the game directory, if it puts it somewher eelse you will have to copy both that and th105.exe over manually. Nothing much I can do about this.

Ah, thanks for your help, it was putting the files into a different folder, but I’ve moved them over now and everything works fine.
Some part of the install didn’t go through well. All my data is gone! And my data from the Japanese version, too!
Since 12.3 is essentially just an expansion, can we expect to see another English patch soon like how Subterranean Animism’s came after Mountain of Faith’s was made.
Regarding 12.3, if we do it, don’t expect it soon. There’s a possibility of a lesser mod for it, eg Weather names only, but a full translation is definitely a ways off. SWR was a ridiculous amount of work to make a translation mod for, and not just because of the dialogue. It’s been a pretty draining experience and I think a lot of us want to work on other things for awhile.
People will definitely be getting on UFO though.

Only one tiny problem, though–If you try to run the patched game without the update patch from Tasofro, it says something along the lines of this:
“SWR not Patched!
A patch can be downloaded from

The thing about is that the http://tasofro.net/arc/download.html link is no longer available on Tasofro’s website. They apparently changed the link to the update patches to:
http://tasofro.net/arc/index.html
Changing this to show the proper link should help people who may otherwise not be aware of where to look in order find these updates. Be sure to do the same for the IaMP english patch, too.

I’m having trouble installing this patch. The patch gets past the check for installation folder, however it gives an error saying unable to open file for writing. When i look in the folder, these files aren’t even there.. anyone any idea’s?

The installer is the same one I used for IaMP’s English translation.
It sounds like the people having trouble installing don’t have administrative privileges or something. I’ll have to look into this – In the meantime you should be able to force it to run at that level, sorry.
Er, not force it I mean, allow all access to the directory that contains SWR. Sorry.
I can force the installer to all-admin but that messes up the installation of desktop-related goodies and whatnot. Looking at UAC plugins, dunno if I’ll do anything with them or not though.

@Immac: read the readme.txt that comes with the patch. It says:
“weather rain (vs Yukari):
Sunshowers are called weather rain (天気雨, tenkiame) in Japanese.”
\”weather rain\” … pointing out this one too, but for different reasons. The translator left in the quote escaping backslash in the translated text
Actually, I think he was referring to the \” part. Shouldn’t be slashes there. Looks like two other win quotes have the same problem, so probably a genuine bug here.

I’m getting “Error opening the file for writing” whenever I try to install it. I have no idea what the problem is.
I covered this above. It’s a Vista UAC thing, I’m looking into it. Just allow all access to the SWR directory and you’ll probably be fine.

Before installing this english patch, you should DL and install all tasofro released patch for SWR. Even not installed SWR(copy paste folder) detected by all the patch. I’m running in vista, else, i dunno…
Finally!!! Some of us can play swr without using fully brain searching mode for the meaning of these moonspeak word.
I had no problems installing it in vista, in fact i have never had an installation problem on vista, just turn of the UAC and vista works like a charm.
I downloaded both the patch and the update, and patched SWR and tried to open SWR, but it said that I had to update it up to version 1.06, and then the japanese version of SWR automatically opened, along with a window that said “Could not hook into th105.exe Do you have GameGuard or something running?” I’m sure I patched SWR up to v1.06 before patching it with the English Patch, and that I don’t have anything like GameGuard running. What’s up?
Open your tasofro folder->th105, is there th105 inside of th105 folder? if so, move all the file to the parent folder(where it contain original th105.exe), if you install the patch up to english patch, at least you see th105a.dat, th105b.dat, th105c.dat, th105e.dat. It must placed together with th105.exe.
Something wrong in the english patch’s exe, there are no profiles, and it crashes when i try to create a new one yet in the untranslated one, everything’s the same

nao: This was noted earlier in the thread: It looks for th105.exe and th105a.dat in the target location, if it can’t find them then your install is messed up. Most likely you renamed the th105.exe or something, which is wrong.
Anyway. I’ve noted all of the text issues brought up so far, if there is another release they’ll be fixed.

I’ve SWR Ver. 1.02 and i want to patch it to 1.06 for the ENG patch.
My problem is that i cant patch 1.03 so that i can patch to the next Ver.
I clicked on the patch then i click on next where it shows the browse selection then again Next and afterward Install then it shows me a error with kanji’s that i cant read and some wierd symbols –> /:*?”|
I’ve tried many things to install the patch but none of them work.

@Hakurei- normally the patch target to “th105″ folder, not “tasofro” folder, or where it contains th105.exe. You may want scroll up the comment, hope you can find solution.

The only thing I find weird is that whenever I try playing the patched version of the game my antivirus insists on that it’s ”malware”.

So how come when I trie to DL the 1.06 patch the brows button takes me right to the Tasofro file in C: but when I go to look for it in C: myself it’s not there at all. Even a search for Tasofro wont bring it up. What’s the deal with that?

I love this game so much that I was playing it front-to-back without knowing a cent about the card effects or the history… Used the mod, played a bit of Marisa’s Story Mode on Lunatic (just for the lolz) and OH MY GOD, EVERYTHING MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW! (or not. hehehe, story mode os so much fun x)

ok i was able to get the patch installed…but it still says SWR not patched…which mean i was supposed to update it to 1.06………thing is…that was already done before i added the english patch….any ideas? XPPPPPPP

I got the exact same problem as “1234321″ below: I already patched my SWR to 1.6 and installed the english patch successfully, yet when I try to run it an error pops up saying “This requires SWR v1.6, please patch to that version”, then it launches the japanese version witch then immidiately crashes (intro theme starts playing but screen remains black).
DaiaX has already replied to this problem with the fix but I didn’t quite get what he meant… Do you have to move all the files inside the “th105″ folder to the SWR folder where all the original files are? Or do you have to take all four th105a.dat, th105b.dat, th105c.dat and th105e.dat files that are in the SWR folder and move them inside the th105 folder? I haven’t tried anything yet cause I don’t want to screw anything up, so…
The crashing on an incorrect detection thing really should have been caught in testing on my side. Oh well, it’s harmless anyway.
The problem is that the 1.06 patch is not installing correctly for you: If you do not see 1.06 in the title bar of the game, it is not correctly patched. When this happens it puts th105.exe and th105c.dat in the directory where it actually installed to, and you can just copy those to the place where the game actually is. It’s a common problem with Tasofro’s patch installer but it has nothing to do with our code.

-find some .dll file

I got a problem with the English Patch. Whenever I defeat Suika as Reisen Inaba, no message appears afterward. Dialogue appears in the original Japanese, but not in the English version.
Looking at the files, it seems that we missed a common win quote.
Wonder why no one brought this up before.
Its a good thing I noticed it. And its not just Suika, but I think a few other characters has this problem, too.
I could not update my SWR game to version 1.06. I redirected the patch to the “th105″ folder. After that, nothing happened; when I ran the game, it still said version 1.01. I don’t know what to do; the patch didn’t come with English instructions. Please help.

There’s no “toggle” feature to the English patch. Just run the Japanese .exe if you want Japanese or the th105_e.exe for English. Speaking of the patch, how’s the update progress?
Having a bit of trouble here, I can’t even seem to get the right version of the game. I try to start it up to test it and I get an error, this is before and after patching. I know where to get the patch and I’m looking at the tutorial and all, but does anyone know a place I can find the game that works for sure?
When I try to start the one I have, I get: ‘This application has failed to start because d3dx9_33.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.’

u have to put the th105.exe and th105dat in the same file as your other files
then u pop the d3dx9_33.dll also in that same while click the th105.exe(it may just say th105) and it shounld say *jap words 10.6* on the top
then just install the english patch into the same file as your d3dx9_33.dll and other files and wala (i think that how u spell it) u got swr english version!!!!! omg

Ummm…I believe I patched it correctly, but the video refuses to show. The video is black with garbled colors. The sound works fine, though. I’m running XP. Anyone with a similar problem?
Thank you gensokyo staff for making this patch. You don’t know how awesome it was to be able to play SWR in english. On that note, is there an english patch for Hisoutensoku, the expansion for SWR? Does this english patch exist already or is there one in the works? I want to start playing Hisoutensoku but I’d love to play while taking in the story. Anyways thanks again for making this patch. i got it to work and everything with the dl3 crap, then with the english patch, the problem is when i went to deck construction, it blocked and said that there is a problem with th105.exe, it seems i dont have it (?) how can i fix this?

i cant get it to work… it says ” Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item ” when i try to open it. Does it needed to be in a specific area?

Why is it that no matter which version of the game I download I can’t seem to get the th105c.dat file I’ve downloaded the game 3 different times and none of the versions included this file. I even ran a search for the file but its not found either. So everytime I patch the game, it tells me that the game isn’t patched @_@. Any help? the Japanese version works, but I’d like to play the English version
I’m on a W7 machine and had the same problem until I tried this:
-right click on the parcher
-properties
-go to “compatibility” tab
-check the box above “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)”
-acept
-run the parcher
Now the problem should be solved.

I got v.106 running just fine, but I can’t seem to get the english version to start at all. The english patcher “installs,” but yet the english game won’t run. Again, no problems with the Japanese version after using the english patcher. Is there something I’m just not getting, or is there something special about patching the English version on Windows 7? Hey, lil’ problem here. Whenever I try to open the english patched version, I keep getting a Malware warning. The regular version is just fine, just not the english version. Also, it’s only started happening recently. It never happened before. Help please?
So, I have the patch, swr 1.02, and up the 1.06 patch, I try to install the patch, and it appears to work, no errors, but when I open swr, it’s still ver1.02, what do I do? Do I need to rename something in the destination? I drop it into the swr folder that has everything, (including th105a, th105b, th105c, th105e, and the th105 that is a sacred boulder). I would really appreciate some help with this matter.
Er,I have a problem. I can’t use Melee Attacks. When I do, the game starts lagging, before quickly freezing and telling me there is a problem, before closing. Also, even if I try to go through the stages using just bullet attacks, when I get to Stage 6 on Reimu’s Story, the game also freezes shortly into the battle. Anyone have any idea why (or better, how to fix it)?

Am I the only one whose SWR English crashes with an unhandled exception when trying to run it? I did everything exactly as told, install first, then patch to 1.06, then install translation patch, and still th105.exe crashes just after th105e.exe calls it.

No seriously. It seems a lot of people need help on this thing, including me. I downloaded the latest patch, which is v1.06, and it still won’t work. It keeps saying that it’s not updated. And the link it gives is wrong as well, just so you know. So like, wtf?
Haruhi: The patch installer might extract the patched files into a separate directory. Check to see if there’s anything new in the folder where you installed the game, and if there’s no th105c.dat, then look around for a new folder. That new folder should contain the patched files, just copy them out into the main game directory, overwriting the previous files, and it should count as patched.
That said, I’m still having trouble with the translated version crashing the game on start. Developers, any thoughts on it?

english version patched works on my windows XP but not in my windows 7.
But no problem with original jpn launcher in 7.
here is my problem I installed SWR on my system with the locale set to United States English and it installed fine. then i installed the patch 1.06 and that went fine and the game says 1.06. then i went to install the english patch i got off the Wiki and when i set the directory and hit next it gives me an error message and tells me to abort, retry, or skip, no matter what i do it Comes up this way. what do i do so i can get the patch to work?
If anyone is still having trouble with the English patch in windows 7.
Copy it in to the SWR (in to the same folder as the game) then right click the patch and set the compatibility to windows XP SP3 apply the change then run the patch.
That should make it work because that is what I did.

After i set compatibility to windows XP, the game still don’t work. Everything is fine on XP, japanesse version still works everywhere. I guess easiest way is learn Japanesse
i installed both SWR and Hisouten but from some time ago both games stopped recognizing keyboard imputs, i can see the game run perfectly but i cant acces menys or anything, any suggestions?

This is really pissing me off.. I can play the fkin japanese version but everytime I try to play the english it keeps saying that I dont have the 1.06 installed when i downloaded it and put it in the dam folder. I demand assistance… -_-;
Even with the patch in the main folder, The English version of the game still did not work.All the files are in place(put the patch inside the folder so they won’t be somewhere else), Have the th05c and e but the English game does not work only the Japanese translated game works. I also using windows 7.The patch works with Xp. but even used with SP3 Settings of Xp it just gives me the error of an app crash and says it has stopped working.

Hi guys, I need help. I’ve got the same problem as most people above who say that it can’t hook into th105. I’ve moved all files from the tasofro patch folder into the parent folder, however the message still pops up and I’m unable to play in English. Any advice on what to do now? Thanks!
I spent 15min trying to get it to work and now it works for me. Here’s what I did:
Running Win7
1: Download the game and latest version (1.06)
2: Download the patcher.
3: Install the game.
4: Right click the patcher>Properties>Compatibility>Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and then enable run program as administrator; Or for some reason you can’t change the compatibility like me (oddly mines was stuck on Windows Vista) then just checkmark the run as admin box and try again.
5: Should work. At least it did for me.

I have a problem that is not fixed by any of the methods listed as of yet on this page. When I try to boot up the English patch, nothing happens. The mouse cursor changes to show that it’s loading, but nothing comes up. The original works just fine, so, as far as I know, all of the necessary files are in place. If I could get some help, that’d be great. Thanks!
Hello there, today I patched my copy of SWR to v1.06, than I tried to apply the English Patch and got this message: Output folder: C:\Program Files\tasofro\th105
Can’t write: C:\Program Files\tasofro\th105\th105e.exe
What do I need to do to fix these problems and properly patch my game. Also I do hope patching from v1.0 to v1.06 is not the problem here.
I need help! Can someone provide me a download link or some sort to get SWR?!?! Everywhere i go it just doesnt work or im scared of downloading from those weird suspicious downloading sites. Id much prefer if it were megaupload or the such
if you can’t run th105e.exe (but can run th105.exe), try changing your system locale to Japanese and try to reinstall SWR + patches, etc.

Uh, is there a custom.exe file for Touhou 10.5? Because the 640 x 480 windowed version I play currently can’t be made into HD if I put it on YouTube, and I can’t record full screen… is there any way to get its size to 1280 x 960, or anything of the sort?
i needs help cus my patch wont install for some reason *the computer doesnt recognise japanese language and thus the setup is unintelligeble* i made sure there is no kanji in the folder and the iso file is already extracted plus when patching i deleted the /th105 so whats wrong? +it errors at the start of the patching bar
My game seems to patch successfully but when I try to run it it does not open. If I open task manager I can see the process start, along with the Windows error reporting process, then they both close a few minutes later. The unpatched game still runs fine, so I guess I’ll be using that until I can figure out what’s wrong.
I’m noticing that no one has posted any issues for a week or so, I want to state my problem and hopefully get some guidance.
I’m on Windows 7, I have PLENTY of free space. I have installed the 1.06 Patch, and I have downloaded and installed the English Patch. I have moved th105.dat and .exe from the th105 folder created by the patcher into the Scarlet Weather Rhapsody folder, which contains the original th105.exe and the other files.
When I attempt to run the English Patch, I get through the installation process to the end, and the window tells me it completed successfully. It creates new icons, on of which is “TH105e.exe”. When I click this, I get a blue ring (the Win7 equivalent to an hourglass) which stays for about eight seconds, then disappears.
When I check the processes tab under Task Manager, it shows that th105 is running, but then it abruptly closes itself without displaying any error message.
I have tried running as administrator, changing the compatability, and reinstalling from a different download source.
I would like to reiterate that ALL patches install without a hitch, and I get NO errors whatsoever.
The Japanese version works fine, but the English Patched version simply will not open.
I have tried using RUN and New Task and the rest, nothing works.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the whole shabang, no difference.
Also, ‘wala’ is spelled ‘viola’.
OH, I forgot to add, I have CenturyLink security, I have checked through it’s block roster, and none of my Virus programs are preventing the English TH105 from opening.
Upon further reflection of the Characters list…
I’m sort of glad they didn’t include Flandre, because she would have turned out two ways:
1) If they had been true to her character, Flandre would completely break the game, since she’d be able to kill any enemy just by moving her right hand.
2) If they had nerfed her for the game, it would have been vaguely insulting to us Flan-Chan fans, and her non-indestructibility would have ended up ruining her as a fighter.
hello i installed touhou 12.3 and i also have touhou 10.5 so i gave the path info in for touhou 12.3 to where is touhou 10.5 correctly,it works but now touhou 10.5 english isn’t working since it crashes on me has encountered a problem and needs to close and don’t know how to fix this,i can play the japanese version without problem but not the english one of touhou 10.5.

I installed both patches just fine, no problems at all.but when i try to run ether the English ver or the jap ver of SWR a window will pop up then dissapear right away. any ideas on how to fix this?
I have the same problem as @170.
The only link that works is the patcher’s link to 1.6. None of the English patch links work, they either 404 or aren’t found.
