Subterranean Animism English Patch v1.00
It’s taken us… actually not all that long to get here, but we’ve completed the English patch for Subterranean Animism! Click on the image above to download the file, then install away! Read on for a few patch notes.
NOTE: The patch has been updated to 1.00a; if you’ve had issues with the game locking up with a black screen on startup, download the latest version of the patch and reinstall. This update also fixes a translation error in Ending No. 03.
NOTE 2: The MoF patch has also been updated with the same black screen fix; if you’re having the same issue with it, redownload the patch from the original post or from here.

Notes:
- Spellcard names in the player data screen will appear as mojibake until the card has been played once on the English patched version of the game, then should appear normally.
- You may want to back up your scoreth11.dat file before installing the patch, in case you encounter any problems. Please remember that due to a bug in the game, SA re-locks the Extra stage for a character if an Easy difficulty run is completed with them. Simply completing the game again on Normal or higher should reopen it.

Well, if you don’t mind technical details, it was hanging on broadcasting a MW_FONTCHANGE message, which is required when installing public font resources to notify all the running programs that the font list has changed, but not really required for the private font resource loaded by the patch for the custom font. Normally, and on most systems, it finishes doing that almost instantaneously, but on some systems (I suspect it’s due to some other program misbehaving), it ends up waiting indefinitely.
Hmm, probably is the result of something else acting up, bug doesn’t seem to widespread. No idea what though. Thanks again for the fix though (and for the response.)

Well, the patch team has been working on SA at the same time they worked on MoF plus the hacking was pretty much identical as MoF from what I’ve heard. So yeah, that’s the reason why it looks so fast. It’s not like they picked up SA right after the MoF patch was done. That’s just crazy~

Well I don’t know, it just doesn’t work in my pc (nor the MOF patch does). I use Windows Vista 64bit. When I try to load the game, it hangs and shows a black screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? :S

I should add that I moved the patch file to the correct folder and had it extract there. Do I just need to find a different SA version? I had to install the one I got using Daemon, if that makes a difference.

The English patch makes the last stage can’t be played… [ it's always crash ]
[ And I can't play the original without crashing at last stage either...] ( i’ve tried to change the applocales into japanese, also try uninstall and reinstall but it doesn’t help …

seriously some of us are having difficult using this patch. can someone that made the patch work please let us know how you did it because this game won’t be translated if the patch doesn’t work, thereby making this patch a failure of the most epic proportion and a waste of time for those of us who didn’t get it to work.
Attention to people who can’t get it to work!! If you’re going to patch the game, make sure you save the file to the folder where all of the game data is kept, and then execute the patch. Granted, this probably isn’t why you are having problems, but just in case you are as moronic as me . . .
The play area does not show up correctly and the the actual display of the play area covers only over half the width and slightly less height than the play area box, while the rest of the box shows the normal play area display but is mostly obscured by the smaller play area image overlapping, and the overlapping image flickers. and to make things worse, the frame rate is horrible and has heavy lag…(the timer for spellcards count down 1/3 of the normal timer rate…).

(also: XP SP3, 10ghz quad AMD phenom, 2gigs of ram, 256mb ati videocard (don’t ask… but these games don’t exactly require much graphics-wise))
@Bob: this has nothing to do with your pc. it means that there’s a file either missing or corrupt, reinstalling touhou would probably fix that.

I can see that several other people are having this problem and I didn’t find a single answer on the internet apart from “Try reinstalling” or “Are you sure you’re patching the right folder”
I just downloaded the whole thing from Gensokyo and deleted my old folder (Because there doesn’t seem to be updates for this one like there are for some other games), and I still got the same error.
Please someone help, I would enjoy being able to play SA in english
If you’re having the “Error: Error patching/extracting file(s). 3 file(s) affected.” error that says that your custom.exe and th11.exe are missing (the error people have previously posted having with the frog image), it’s possible that you are making the same mistake I was. My dl of the game came in a folder labled “Touhou11 – Subterranean Animism (With English Patch 1.00a)”. Inside that folder was the patch and another folder titled “Touhou 11 Subterranean Animism”, which, of course, held the game. Turns out, to solve the problem I was having you need to move the patch into the second folder (labeled “Touhou 11 Subterranean Animism”) with the th11.exe file and then try to patch. Note: It doesn’t matter that you can browse and select the folder with the th11.exe file in the patch application itself, if the two files are not in the exact same folder, you will get the missing files error that I did.
Perhaps this was a really obvious solution to some people, but I don’t have a lot of technological expertise so I typically assume that everything’s where it needs to be when I download something. Still, I felt really stupid when I realized that was all I had to fix the error. >>; Anyways, hopefully this will help someone like me.
If anyone has problems after the patch has installed with the game blacking out after being opened, if you take the font file and manually copy/move it into the windows font folder, it will force install it and it will then work. Hope this helps anyone

Severe slowing down of the game even with 1/3 frameskip.
I got the latest DirectX, i got a 3 GHz pentium 4 and 1.43GB ram cpu and a VIA/S3G graphic card.
Can anyone please tell me how do i get SA and UFO running at normal graphics and framerate?
When I attempt to play the game, an error box shows up saying: “This application has failed to start because d3dx9_37.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.” I’ve already tried reinstalling it, but I have come across the same message. Help…?
I have a problem with this game:
i use a spanish keyboard and when I play the game the controls dont response, its like I am pressing up and left and holding them help me!

before that ERROR happened I think the ready box or whatever thingy was BLANK yeah it was BLANK so is it suppose to be full or is that what happened to everyone even the persons that can install this game
I finally applied the English patch just to discover my joystick does not work on this game. In all other Touhou games it works just fine. How come???
