Mountain of Faith English Patch v1.00a

Just a small update to the English patch with a few fixes.

Download it here or by clicking the screenshot from the original patch announcement. See below for changelog.

Fixes for this patch:

  • Standardized song titles between music room and stage BGM cut-ins.
  • Corrected a typo in stage 6 BGM cut-in.
  • Corrected the shot types in the Player Data menu.
  • Changed font loading system, should no longer cause issues with previous games or have the font disappear between reboots (font is no longer installed from Windows, but is loaded directly from the game folder).

Otherwise nice, but the damn patch still deleted whatever Japanese font it is that Subterranean Animism, Shoot the Bullet and other nontranslated Touhou games used. How do I get that back?

So to recap, the problem is that for whatever reason (= bad coding) the patch deletes whatever font Windows normally uses with Touhou games. I don’t know if the current installer does that, because I don’t feel like re-installing Windows to try it out. I know for a fact that the first installer did that and using the second one certainly doesn’t fix the problem afterwards.

After installing this, deleting the font and reinstalling PoFV, I’m still unable to see the original japanese font.

so yeah, like acabaca said, it probably deleted a font that came with windows so I need someone to point me what this font is so I can look for it -_-

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the support for Asian languages, didn’t affect anything.
I tried using XP’s own system restore feature, it told me it couldn’t roll back.
All nontranslated Touhou games still show blank boxes instead of kanji.

God dammit, do I really have to reinstall Windows just because the makers of this patch thought it would be a smart idea to mess around with system files?

What did you do put all your games in the same folder instead of sub folders? I keep all my games in individual folders god forbid patches and updates come out, that and if anything has the same name it overwrites…although I had a weird issue with the Patchcon patch that was looking for the game in system32 wich it magically fixed itself after say 20 trys… Can’t say Im having issues with MoF good job guys.

When I tried the first patch, I didn’t have any of the problems that I’ve seen being mentioned maybe because my regional settings is already set to Japanese. The only side effect from the patch I saw was a drop in frame rate. I could do 60FPS at full render before, but it’s more like 51~54 with the patch.

Chen, all the non-translated Touhou games use the same default WIndows font. The first version of the MoF patch does something to that font. It either deletes it or replaces it, and that affects every Touhou game at the same time.

Those who didn’t have their old games lose text probably didn’t choose the “install custom font” option in the installer. I have a hunch it’s related to the problem.

Alright, here’s something that worked for me: Go to this page,
    http://drunktankies.wikidot.com/games:touhourekkaden
save the image, rename it to .rar, unpack and install the font in it. It seems the games are satisfied as long as they can find _some_ Japanese font on your hard drive.

The old installer does not delete anything. Apparently, Windows has issues selecting the correct font when running Japanese games outside of a Japanese locale, and whether it works or not seems to depend on the set of fonts you have installed on your system. The problems reported here apparently could happen with the installation of any font. To be sure that the Japanese games use the correct fonts, you have to run them with AppLocale or switch to the Japanese locale.

Uh, what. My unstranslated games still work perfectly, even when I first installed the old patch, both with and without the custom font.
Are you guys running the unstranslated ones without Applocale or setting Windows to Japanese whateveritwas? I remember that when I ran them without doing this, text would not show at all. They appear perfectly with it, though.
I didn’t test the FPS, however, as I am too lazy to close Firefox. I have only 256 MB of RAM so I should close it before doing anything.

Really good job with the patch, now the font has just the right size :)
Now the only glitch I can spot is the misaligned text in the spellcard ranking section.

For some odd reason, i can’t even play MoF using TH10e.exe. What kind of stuff do i need to install first, other than Mountain of Faith.

    @flashn00b
Update to the latest DirectX if you haven’t yet. That usually fixes that. If it’s anything else, not really sure.

Here some low priority bug, the game emulated in wine looks like this.
    http://xs536.xs.to/xs536/09092/fontfail378.png
But I think it will be a pain in the ass to fix this, because all touhou games have font problems in wine, so don’t bother unless you have nothing better to do.

This is a bug, it has been fixed in the SA patch. The ‘skipping’ has to do with files being repacked that don’t need to be patched. Hopefully we’ll get a fix for this patch also.

    February 27th, 2009 | 11:04 am

And I do mean that the skipping has nothing to do with the bug.

    So… O_o
Why i have the black screen ?
I have the last version of DirectX, no problems with the SA patch…
So i can play SA in english but not MoF in english..

When I patch, for some reason, I get errors for th10.exe and custom.exe. Has anyone encountered a similar error?

This new patch is supposed to correct the shot types in the Player Data menu, but Marisa Piercing-type and High-Power-type are still inversed.
