Mountain of Faith English Patch v1.00

It’s taken us a while to get here, but we’ve finally completed the English patch for Mountain of Faith! Click on the image above to download the file, then install away! Read on for a few patch notes.

Thanks go out to bofh, Mr_Alert, Halbarad, Mefidex, and SirAlex for all the hard work they’ve put in to make this possible.

Notes:

- Spellcard names in the player data screen will appear as mojibake until the card has been played once on the English patched version of the game, then should appear normally.

- If you use the vsync patch, simply rename th10e.exe to th10.exe to use the English patch with the vsync patch.

- A few users have reported losing their score files during installation; you may want to back up your scoreth10.dat file before installing the patch, although this seems to be a fairly uncommon problem.

- Please report any bugs in a comment to this post, or to the Maidens of the Kaleidoscope forum thread here.

Nice! I have a problem immediately, though. Font is too big, despite that I used “install font”- option. It leaves part of the text at the very right off, in both windowed and fullscreen. Remedy?

  10. February 10th, 2009 | 8:33 am

    >> -

Sometime. We’re planning to work on it, but no ETA; there will be other games patched before we get to it, though.

    >> Wordspoken

Reinstall the patch and uncheck the install font option, then drag the THSpatial.ttf file from the MoF folder to your C:\Windows\Fonts directory.

    @Js2756
Can you describe it? Maybe the guys can get a better idea on what you’re talking about.

  20. February 10th, 2009 | 6:51 pm

    >> Js2756

If you’re referring to the patcher showing a lot of files as “Skipped”, that is indeed normal. Not all of the game files are updated for the English patch.

  25. February 11th, 2009 | 10:09 pm

    YEAH! MoF Patch!

Untranslated: Story of Eastern Wonderland, Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream, Lotus Land Story, Mystic Square, Immaterial and Missing Power, Phantasmagoria of Flower View, Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and Subterranean Animism.

    >> free

What games are you seeing this happen on?

    >> Mariku

Your list is incorrect, there’s been an IaMP patch available for quite a while.

    February 12th, 2009 | 2:34 am

I noticed at several places that the translation slightly differed from touhou wiki. Will you be going back and synchronizing the game content with the wiki content?

  28. free
    February 12th, 2009 | 5:07 am

    @Yukari-sama

    SA
    PoFV
EoSD using the original Japanese executable – English patch works fine

it doesn’t effect any English patched Touhou games so it isn’t a big problem

  29. ultramage
    February 12th, 2009 | 6:50 am

I also noticed that once the spellcard names get refreshed, they won’t match the original text alignment. The X/Y numbers are all over the place, and in some cases the spellcard names shift as well. Might use some sort of padding…

  30. heyman
    February 12th, 2009 | 10:57 am

yeah I got the same problem than free, installing the patch has erased the font that most of the other pc touhou games are using. For the translated one it’s not really a problem but I cannot see any text in shoot the bullet, subterranean animism and phantasmagoria of flower view

  31. acabaca
    February 12th, 2009 | 2:04 pm

What? Holy shit, you’re right! This thing deleted whatever font it is that the non-translated touhou games use! How could it be coded that badly? Isn’t that a standard WIndows font? That would mean it’s gonna affect other Japanese games too!

    God fucking dammit.

  32. Thundercross
    February 12th, 2009 | 2:25 pm

Did you forget to use Applocale for the Japanese versions?

  33. free
    February 12th, 2009 | 2:59 pm

@ acabaca: it’s a custom font, so if the problem is related to the font file, only Japanese Touhou will be effected

@Thundercross: the game works fine without Applocale, also the fonts where there before Mof patch.

  34. acabaca
    February 12th, 2009 | 4:33 pm

free: How can it be a custom font when I have never installed a font before? Unless the MoF patch installer searches and deletes the font from EVERY folder on my hard drive, I can’t see how only Touhous could be affected.

And more importantly, how do we fix this?

  35. ultramage
    February 12th, 2009 | 4:49 pm

@acabaca: The installer at one point asks whether it should install a ‘custom font’. I said yes, although wasn’t sure what the purpose of that was. Subterranean Animism displays text as usual, so no idea what happened on your side…

  36. free
    February 12th, 2009 | 5:03 pm

@ acabaca: the name of the font is TouhouSpatial (THSpatial.ttf) so the font is touhou related. (font comes with MoF patch )

The question is if the font is related to the problem.
All I now for sure is that after the Mof Patch the Japanese dialog in SA, PoFV and EoSD (using the Japanese executable) was gone. (it only effects the in game dialog all the other Japanese text is still there)

  37. ultramage
    February 14th, 2009 | 7:07 am

One more thing to report: It seems that after restarting Vista, the font size used for ingame dialogues and spellcard names became bigger than it should be, causing text to overflow past dialogue boxes and the screen boundary.

  38. somerndmguy
    February 27th, 2009 | 10:46 pm

The text doesn’t wrap around the bottom of the box properly for me… plus the font itself is too translucent and makes it really hard to read.

Spellcard names also get cut off.

Is it because I’m playing at 800×600 resolution?

Every time I try to install the patch, it will go for a little while, but then a error occurs and then the computer mentions that the program encountered a error and it has to stop. Same thing happens when I try to run the english.exe.

    May 2nd, 2009 | 5:02 pm

EDIT: Never mind, it is working now. I guess it was just a problem on my side.

    Ermm..

I have patched the English Patch. It works !

BUT, the frame RATES goes down RADICALLY, from it was usually 60 fps-50 fps, now becomes 14-15 fps.

Anyone can help fixing the frame rate drops ?

    Thanks a lot !
