I’d like to take a short break for some site news and questions, if you’ll forgive me.

This is Halbarad (aka Yukari), the webmaster and admin here at gensokyo.org. I’m really pleased with the way the site has turned out so far; when I first picked things up I wasn’t sure how well it’d work to move some of the existing English Touhou resources to a new site, although given some of the changes that have occurred all around I’m glad we could help to pull a lot of the editing resources together in one place.

For those of you who’ve been with us for a while, you might remember that we started out with news about new releases and upcoming events in the Touhou world, both East and West (such as updates to the Cowcaster client for IaMP or new game announcements and releases from Japanese sites. I’d personally like to see a return to this, as other than imageboard browsing it’s currently a bit hard to find out what’s new in Touhou unless you have some Japanese comprehension ability.

Unfortunately, for most of the core staff at the moment, we’re too occupied with other projects - myself and Ruka with editing and work/school, Wong with work and Another Dream, etc. - to really keep up with writing up news posts about new events. For myself, I’d love to see this get going more, since it’s really something I think we could use more of in the English Touhou fan community, but I simply don’t have the time to keep up with all the writing myself.

That’s where you come in, if you’d like.

I’d like to open the doors to folks - if you’d be interested in writing up Touhou news for gensokyo.org, let us know! The only real requirement will be the ability to write in English; as far as FINDING the news goes, I and others can do that much - it’s just that compiling everything into a news post, with translations or instructions for games, and screenshots, and whatever else, takes up more time than we have to spare at the moment. If you’d like to help out, check out this thread in the forums and let us know what you’d like to do - whether you’ve got some skills in reading Japanese or Chinese and want to help hunt for news, or whether you’ve got good writing abilities and you’d like to help get the news out to everyone.

And if this doesn’t go anywhere, that’s also okay. We’re still a great place to stop off and check out Touhou doujinshi, and that’s not going to change either way - but I’d like to try to keep working to make the site better and better still. And even if you’re not able to help, be sure to check out the poll and tell us what you think of the idea - do you WANT news and info from us, or are you happy with the site just the way it is?
